Design and applications of a wheelchair-accessible porta potty

For a large number of events held outdoors in Fort Worth, a significant number of people attending are disabled and using a wheelchair. Hence the event organizers wish to hire a wheelchair-accessible porta potty. Since typically a wheelchair is 25 inches wide and 32 inches long, a porta-potty that is wheelchair accessible is also much larger than a regular porta potty. The doors of the porta potty are wider and there is more space inside the potty for maneuvering the wheelchair. Additionally, the porta potty also has handrails attached to the walls to make it easier for a disabled person to use the potty.

Design

The porta potty which is wheelchair accessible is also called a handicap potty since it has been designed to meet the requirement of handicapped persons. Though there are different models of potties for wheelchairs available, typically the length and width of the porta potty are more than five feet. This allows the wheelchair user to rotate 360 degrees inside the potty. The potty has a flat floor design so that the wheelchair user can easily access the potty, no additional ramp is required. The seat height for the potty is usually 19″ for the convenience of the users. The enclosure is fixed to the ground or floor using stakes since it has a flat floor.

Other than the additional features described above the porta potty is similar to other porta potties described above. The potty has a toilet and urinal with a toilet roll holder. Some models have anti-slip flooring. The door has a spring so that it will close properly. An illuminated occupancy sign is provided for privacy so that others are aware that the toilet is occupied. The entire enclosure is usually made from polyethylene or similar plastic to reduce the weight. The plastic enclosure is waterproof and can be used in all weather conditions. It also includes a water tank for the wastewater. The porta potty is well ventilated so that users do not feel suffocated. The porta potties have large handles on the exterior for transporting it

Applications

In addition to disabled people, many senior citizens or sick persons are using wheelchairs. So any outdoor event in Fort Worth with a large number of people attending should have at least one porta potty. Many weddings, engagements, reception functions, birthdays, and other parties are held outdoors, so a porta potty is required for these events. For farmer’s markets, flea markets, local fairs, concerts, musicals, and other performances in Fort Worth, organizers should arrange for a handicap porta potty for the convenience of those participating. It is advisable for construction sites to have a porta potty so that users who may be disabled can comfortably use the potty.

Benefits

Disabled persons and senior citizens using a wheelchair are more like to attend the Fort Worth event if a larger porta potty is installed. This porta potty is also convenient for families with small children since the parents can accompany the child to the potty without feeling cramped. It is also convenient for workers who may be wearing safety gear, which they can comfortably remove in the larger potty.
